the fireplace reno

We took our fireplace from VERY builder grade- to a plaster fireplace of my dreams!

The fireplace that came with our home was the definition of a very tradition style fireplace. It was okay, but it definitely did not flow with the style across the rest of my home- not to mention the mantle of the fireplace was extremely high making our TV just sit so high on the wall!

The old- traditional fireplace. Note the giant TV and no mantle styling space!

WHAT WE DECIDED TO DO:

We were already replacing the flooring accross our home- so as we did that project we decide to go ahead and tear down our old fireplace and create a new one! I wanted a very minimal and organic look for this new fireplace. I spent countless hours on Pinterest looking for inspiration on plaster fireplaces! We do have a gas fireplace so we needed to keep tile on the surround for the heat. We opted for this Cloe Tile from Wayfair! Such a beautiful and timeless look!!

I showed our contractor photos of what we wanted and he made it happen! very simple and clean lines fireplace! Currently the surround is just a plaster/spackle. I have been looking into Portola Paints- Roman Clay colors to perhaps add a Roman Clay look to it down the road!

My favorite part of this fireplace is being able to actual STYLE it! The TV on our last fireplace was so large it left no room to be able to style!

I started with a vintage vase to add some character to the space - and paired with this beautiful glazed bowl from world market that adds a cute touch with the scalloped detail! On the other side I added in my favorite Travertine Candle Sticks from Amazon! Love adding in this stone texture to the space to really give off the organic vibe we are looking for.

The Styling

Since switching out the fireplace, I new I wanted to jazz up the interior a little bit. We do have a gas fireplace so I needed to get something that was safe for gas. These ceramic balls (fireballs as I like to call them) are BEAUTIFUL. Truly such an elevated touch to the interior. I also ordered this grate to set them on in the fireplace! Such a stunning detail to add if you are looking to just elevate your space even more.
